How to Wear the Barbiecore Trend
If you're a person who uses the internet, you've likely seen photos of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling rollerblading around the set of the new Barbie movie with bleach-blond hair, sparkling smiles and a whole lot of neon-pink clothing. And if you're an adult of a certain age who grew up pining for a Barbie Dreamhouse or Barbie convertible, you may be experiencing some major flashbacks.
The hype surrounding the movie—plus a crazy-popular hot-pink runway collection last year by luxury fashion house Valentino, which worked with the color gurus at Pantone to concoct its custom fuchsia color, PP Pink—have helped kick off one of the hottest trends right now: Barbiecore. We don't think the trend will subside with the release of the movie, either.

Movie aside, Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli sums up why celebs like Lizzo, Harry Styles and Kim Kardashian are donning so much pink: "Pink [is] a manifestation of the unconscious and a liberation from the need for realism," he wrote on the Valentino website. "It enhances individuality, capturing values and feelings."
Here are a few pieces from local shops that will help you embrace your inner doll and possibly inspire future outfits. In the immortal words of Aqua: "Come on Barbie, let's go party!"

Nars Lipstick in Schiap, Sephora Local

Valentino may be playing a big part in rejuvenating our love of hot pink, but designer Elsa Schiaparelli was the O.G. pink lady. According to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Schiaparelli loved her signature "shocking pink" because "it represented her desire to shock those around her with her unique and sometimes avant-garde designs." This beloved color from Nars, named after Schiaparelli, pays homage to the designer and is the perfect statement-making lip color. If you've been wanting to switch out your classic red, try this.
