The City of Sarasota is holding a dedication and ribbon cutting to rename Pineapple Park as Paul N. Thorpe Jr. Park at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22. Thorpe, commonly known as "Mr. Downtown," is the founder and creator of the Downtown Association of Sarasota, the downtown farmers' market, the New Year’s Eve pineapple drop, multiple downtown parades and downtown's annual Fourth of July fireworks show. The park is located at 135 S. Pineapple Ave., Sarasota.
