Developer Hugh Culverhouse Jr. Donates $500,000 to Church of the Redeemer

Plus, grants to Azara Ballet, Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida and more.

Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida  recently received a $6,226.05 grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.

Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida  recently received a $6,226.05 grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.

Sarasota County developer and attorney Hugh Culverhouse Jr. recently donated $500,000 to the Church of the Redeemer, marking the contribution as the largest gift non-capital campaign donation in the parish history.

Mosaic has awarded a grant of $65,000 to All Faiths Food Bank for the food bank’s BackPack and Mobile Pantry programs, aimed at ending hunger in rural communities.

The Founders Golf Club Women’s Golf Association raised more than $50,000 for Breast Health Sarasota at its annual Golf for the Cure event. The total funds raised at the benefit golf tournament, auction and luncheon will stay in Sarasota County to provide diagnostic screening services to men and women in the local community. 

The Hermitage Artist Retreat has announced that U.K.-based playwright and Olivier Award-winning lyricist Chris Bush has been selected as the fourth recipient of the Hermitage Major Theater Award (HMTA). Bush will receive a cash prize of $35,000, as well as a residency at the Hermitage and a developmental workshop in a major arts capital, which for this commission will be London in late 2025.

Neal Communities recently donated $25,000 to Healthy Teens, an organization dedicated to the success and wellbeing of Florida teens in Manatee and Sarasota Counties.

Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida was recently awarded a $6,226.05 grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. The grant is designated to support the implementation of the Brightly software package for the Girl Scouts' five council properties.

Azara Ballet has been awarded a $3,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County for its "Empowering the Arts: Grant Writing Capacity Building for Dance Company Members" project.

To assist at-risk middle and high school students in achieving their educational, career and life goals, three foundations have awarded grants to support Safe Children Coalition’s Achievers program. Those who contributed funds to support the Achievers program are: the Harold C. and Jacqueline F. Bladel Foundation, $5,000; Annette J. Hagens Memorial Foundation, $2,500; and Wawa Foundation, $1,500.
