Where to Get Great Takeout for the Super Bowl
We’ve cheered for our teams. We’ve stayed up way too late on Sundays. And for some of us, dedicated fandom has paid off. That’s right: We're talking about Super Bowl LVIII, coming at us on Sunday, Feb. 11. In a face-off between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs, there can only be one winner.
OK, but real talk... This writer knows next to nothing about sports, aside from SEC football (go Gators!). But the Super Bowl also means snacks. So. Many. Snacks.
If you’re the kind of person who throws a big party for your friends every year, you may have your menu planned. But for those who aren’t so organized, but still want to chow down while watching the game, check out our list of great places to get takeout to celebrate all things Super Bowl.
Food + Beer
Multiple locations, eatfooddrinkbeer.com
With five convenient locations around the region and a menu full of munchables, Food + Beer is an obvious choice. Tuck into a giant Bavarian pretzel or homestyle nuggets for finger food that won't distract you from the game.
Origin Craft Beer & Pizza Café
Multiple locations, originpizzacafe.com
Origin Pizza Café boasts several outposts around the area for maximum access to football-friendly food. Pizzas with an assortment of creative toppings dominate the menu, but we're here for the wings. They are huge, well-seasoned and the juiciest in town. Don't forget the extra napkins.
Reyna's Taqueria
935 N. Beneva Road, Sarasota, (941) 260-8343, reynastaqueria.com
Hear us out: We want a big box of tacos while watching a football game. Tacos are, in fact, a perfect football food: handheld, customizable and heartburn-inducing. At Reyna's, the tortillas are freshly made and the salsa steals the show. Throw in some street corn for good measure.
Kolucan
6644 Gateway Ave., Sarasota, (941) 921-3133, kolucan.com
Sarasota's newest upscale Mexican restaurant is bringing it down home this Super Bowl. They've upped the takeout game with six different platters: Fajitas, quessadillas, tacos, sopes and taquitos are all available for your game day party, but it's the chicken wings that have us the most excited. Kolucan is frying up dozens of wings, tossing them in salsa roja and finishing them with cotija cheese and avocado ranch.
Solorzano's
3604 Webber St., Sarasota, (941) 927-4992, solorzanobros.com
Not to be confused with other pizzerias of a similar name, at the Solorzano's on Webber Street, we like the "centrello" pizza (a white pizza with onions, spinach, tomatoes and basil), but we would never tell you how to order your favorite pie.
Tsunami Sushi & Hibachi
100 Central Ave., #1022, Sarasota, (941) 366-1033; 11609 State Road 70 E., Bradenton, (941) 909-8288; tsunami-sarasota.com
Sushi may not be the first thing that crosses your mind when you think of football, but Tsunami's takeout game is on point. Why not switch up your order this year? If sushi isn't calling your name, Tsunami has great appetizers like chicken tatsu-age (thin pieces of fried chicken served with spicy mayo) or gyoza. And for those living in Lakewood Ranch, Super Bowl Sunday presents a great opportunity to try out the restaurant's new State Road 70 location.
Brick's Smoked Meats
1528 State St., Sarasota, (941) 993-1435, brickssmokedmeats.com
We had to throw in some barbecue for the Chiefs fans out there. While Brick's skews Texas-style, you can still get a mean rack of ribs here. Bust out your favorite barbecue sauce or try something new, and don't forget the sides. The pimiento mac 'n' cheese is the stuff of dreams.
Clarabell Cookies
6564 Superior Ave., Sarasota, (941) 923-1742, clarabellcookies.com
Don't forget dessert. Swing by Clarabell Cookies in Gulf Gate to find out why these are the best cookies in town. Opt for an assortment so you can try everything. Calories don't count on Super Bowl Sunday.
